L. Patrick Laing Memorial Scholarship

FPYC is proud to provide two scholarships totaling $3,000 in the name of L. Patrick Laing. All seniors are encouraged to apply. Award selection evaluation is based on participation in the Fairfax Police Youth Club sports program. Please see the application below for more details.

Eligibility

• The applicant must be a graduating senior in high school in the Northern Virginia area.
• Applicants must be seeking post-secondary education.
• Applicant must have been member of the Fairfax Police Youth Club at any time.

Scholarship Award

• A total of $3,000 will be awarded to two recipients. The highest scoring recipient will receive $2,000, with the second highest recipient receiving a $1,000 award.
• The selection shall be made by the Board of Directors of the Fairfax Police Youth Club. 
• Award checks will be issued to the financial aid office of the institution designated by the recipients.

1. Seasons in FPYC. List each season and year you participated in FPYC.
2. Separate FPYC Sports. List each sport participated in FPYC. Basketball, Cheerleading, Field Hockey, Football, Irish Football, Lacrosse, Running, Soccer, Volleyball, and Wrestling. (Former sports: T-Ball and Rugby)
3. Applicant – Extra Activities Within FPYC. List any additional activities you participated in FPYC (include the calendar year) Examples include: coach/assistant coach, referee, registration etc.
4. Applicant – Family Extra Activities Within FPYC. List any additional activities applicant's family participated in with FPYC (include calendar year). Examples include: Board of Directors, Sports Director, Coach, League Director, Volunteer.
5. GPA. Provide school transcript with grades.
6. Essay. Introduce yourself to the evaluation committee. Include your FPYC Experience, college choice, future goals & objectives.

About L. Patrick Laing 

L. Patrick Laing served his community with perseverance, dedication and loyalty. Pat Laing was at Fairfax High School for 34 years, serving as director of student activities since 1982 and was for many years the director of the Group AAA Northern Region baseball. As director of student activities, Pat Laing was devoted to Fairfax High School, hiring coaches, scheduling competitions, determining eligibility, lining fields, running tournaments, coordinating sports banquets, getting scholarships for his athletes, and resolving concerns of parents, students, and coaches. Pat Laing cared about his community and especially the students in it.
