2024 Track & Field Schedule

This schedule is subject to change based on receipt of field and track permits.  Any changes will be updated here and sent to the team via team email once the season has begun. 
 

2024 Schedule Update. These details are in the chart below. This season, our entire team will practice together at Fairfax High School (Sundays), Van Dyck Park (Tuesdays) and Katherine Johnson Middle School (Thursdays) unless you wish to practice at Accotink on Tuesday/Thursday. We will separate out our sprinters and distance runners for the older age groups, but there is always an opportunity to switch back and forth from practice to practice. 

Accotink: The coaches at Accotink will be focusing on middle distance runners and long distance, with a little speed work sprinkled in (all runners need some speed work). Note that the majority of the team practices at our Fairfax locations, but Accotink can be a good option if you live closer to that side of town.

2024 Spring Practice Readiness: We encourage those who sign up to begin running 2-3 times a week in the month or so before practices start to get acclimated to running. Depending on your child's age (and whether they are more a sprinter or distance runner), they should be able to run a couple of laps around the track.

Field Events: TBD. Events will be based on coach availability to manage these events. Once coach availability is determined, we will decide where these events will be held during weekday practices and how they will be managed at the Sunday practices. If we don't have enough volunteers to manage the field events at the meets, then the event will be limited by time or canceled. Some field events may not happen if there is not a coach or there is not a coach on a specific practice day. 

SUNDAY PRACTICES are at Fairfax High School. Meet in the Track Stadium. Sunday practice is the entire team. There are no other practice locations available on Sundays. 

Thursday, March 7th - Pre-season bib pick up and team night at Potomac River Running from 6pm-8pm
Sunday, March 10th - (First Day of Practice)  Anticipate 1:00 - 2:15 p.m. practice with the younger age groups (5-6 y/o and 7-8 y/o) being done at 2:00 p.m. 

Weekday practices are 6-7 p.m. Locations are in the chart below.

Athletes are welcome to vary where they attend practice on Tuesday and Thursday. A mid-distance runner may want to attend one sprint practice during the week and one distance practice. 

There will be no practices during the time period of FCPS spring break week from March 24th through March 31st. 

The regular season will go through the end of May/early June.

*Away Meets Away meets require much coordination of obtaining a team packet, parent volunteers being stationed at a team tent, coaches assisting athletes, families listening for calls for events. For the meets we sign up the team as FPYC, I will register athletes for the events but may not be able to help with all aspects on the day of the meet. These meets take ALL day. If you sign your child up for a first event on the schedule and a last event on the schedule, you will be there ALL day. We do not require that coaches attend these meets. If their child is not participating, they will not be at the meet and families will be responsible for warming up their child, getting their child to check-in etc. Many meets charge stadium entrance fees for spectators.  These meets all require registration prior to the meet. You and your child will need to look at the schedule provided and decide what events they will do. We create a google form for families to notify us of which events their child will do and will provide information well in advance of the meets. 

After the end of season celebration, any remaining practices are considered post-season practices and are only for those participating in the AAU or USATF qualifiers.

KJMS = Katherine Johnson Middle School, formerly Lanier Middle School, on Jermantown Rd. in Fairfax. This middle school has a 250m dirt track that can be used for sprints. We do not have access to local High School tracks during the week. 

Accotink: The Tuesday meet up spot for Accotink may change based on ongoing construction at the park. This info will be updated as needed.
